Rica Fuentes Martinez

Rica Fuentes Martinez (1977, Barcelona) has lived and worked in Vienna since 1980.

After training as a photographer and media designer, she studied as an associate professor in 2008/09 at the Academy of Fine Arts in the Contextual Painting class (Ashley Hans Scheirl and Jakob Lena Knebl).
As early as 2017, she began combining art and science in her work as a visual artist with the series „Grund-Risse“ (Ground Plans), transcribing them into visual works.
The focus is on consciously promoting transdisciplinary thought processes:
The artist aims to create awareness and mindfulness for the complex interrelationships of our society, the (or rather all) sciences, and our individual histories, which are further shaped by experiences and learning processes throughout our lives. At the same time, we are more than individuals – we can connect, form alliances, network, and act as a group.
Rica Fuentes Martinez is convinced that the digital age can help us interweave and connect scientific and intellectual achievements, and escape the cycle of history characterized by destruction and reconstruction.
