Karl Hermann Haupt

(1904-1983)

Karl Hermann Haupt was born in Halle an der Saale in 1904. He was a German painter, graphic artist, photographer and designer. First he studied painting at the arts and crafts school in Halle. After graduating, he took courses at the Bauhaus with Josef Albers, László Moholy-Nagy, Paul Klee, Wassily Kandinsky and Walter Gropius. In the following years he was a student at Burg Giebichenstein, worked as a painter in the textile industry and studied at the higher technical school for textile surface art with Johannes Itten. Since 1938 he worked as a draftsman for the United Silk Weaving Mills. From 1946 he worked as a graphic artist and photographer at the Academy of Sciences and was a teacher at the Berlin-Weißensee School of Art. His works are now in museums in Germany and abroad. Karl Hermann Haupt died in Berlin in 1983.
