Ursula Niederegger

Ursula Niederegger is both an assemblage-artist and a pharmacist in Merano, South Tyrol.

Empty pillboxes of the brand Anberries (Grether’s Pastillen in Austria), which have left behind their original purpose, form the basis of the artworks, transforming into stages for old figurines and broken flea market finds.

The figurines mainly come from collections by the German brand Linde and Titze, as well as toy soldiers and war-toys from the 1950s and 1970s by the Italian brand Bavarelli and Ferrero. Furthermore, damaged materials and scrap jewelry parts are used in many of the creations.

These objects, which have long been forgotten and forsaken, are now repurposed and brought into new relationships with one another. In these new settings, the pillboxes function as a constant frame for the scenes, guiding the viewer while at times being purposely crossed to become part of the action.

The signs of wear and tear that live in each item play a decisive role in the artistic process and the transformations that follow.

To date, over 150 individual assemblages have been realized, in which their protagonists each spark new atmospheres and impressions.
