Anna Stangl

Anna Stangl was born in Salzburg in 1961 and lives and works in Vienna. First she studied painting at the Academy of Fine Arts in Vienna and continued her studies at the Ecole des Beaux Arts in Paris. She received scholarships abroad in Japan, China, Paris and Budapest. The artist traveled to Asia, North and South America, Australia, Melanesia, Japan, India, China and Central Asia and had numerous exhibitions at home and abroad.

Anna Stangl’s central medium is drawing. She creates poetic figurative representations, which show the human, especially the female body, as well as plants and animals, as central motifs.

„Two qualities stand out quickly and clearly in Anna Stangl’s work and urge them to be named as the causes of the desire to look at them. Firstly, these works show a certain tenderness towards their objects: a formal quality that can be seen, for example, in the fine lines, but also in the childlike- And secondly, there is a very characteristic kind of charming humor as a noticeable quality of this work: It shows in the postures of the characters or in the situations portrayed, for example the peculiar encounters of human beings with animals. “ (Robert Pfaller)
