Franz von Bayros

(1866-1924)

Franz von Bayros was born in Zagreb in 1866 and was also known as the Marquis de Bayros. He was an Austrian graphic artist, illustrator and painter of the fin de siècle, which describes a cultural movement that represents cultural decay. He also published his works under the pseudonym Choisy Le Conin.

Franz von Bayros made illustrations related to classical erotic literature. His compositions show a playful ornamentation and an always splendid presentation. The sensuality and beauty of young women are associated with floral attributes. Bayros dealt with the style of impressionism and naturalism, but turned to the drawing. His delicate lines and ornamentation developed through his occupation with the Rococo. Franz von Bayros died in 1924.
