Henryk Uziemblo

(1879-1949)

Henryk Uziemblo was born in 1879 and was a Polish painter, printmaker, interior designer and fresco artist. He studied at the Department of Art Industry of the College of Industry in Cracow and later at the Arts and Crafts School of the Austrian Museums for Art and Industry in Vienna with Karl Karger. He then went to the Academy of Fine Arts in Cracow and studied in the studio of Theodor Axentowicz and Stanislaw Wyspiański. From 1903 studied in Paris at the Academie Julian with Eugène Grasset and Lucien Simon. Uziemblo was a member of the Hagenbund and he was a co-founder of the “Society for Polish Applied Arts”. During the First World War he worked primarily as a war painter. Uziemblo produced, among other things, the frescoes in the Art Nouveau cafe in the Cloth Hall in Krakow (with J.Mehoffer) and in the Cathedral of the Assumption of the Virgin in Sosnowitz (with W.Tetmajer). In addition, drafts of glass windows, glass paintings, lamps and dishes were created. Henryk Uziemblo died in Kraków in 1949.
