Hermann Haider

(*1938)

Hermann Haider was born in Linz in 1938 and is an Austrian painter and graphic artist. In 1955 he was a founding member of the Mühlviertel artists‘ guild. From 1954 to 1960 he studied at the University of Art and Industrial Design in Linz in the master class for painting and graphics with Herbert Dimmel. From 1950 he worked in Stey-regg (Pulgarn), where he set up his studio in the Meierhof of Pulgarn Monastery. Haider is present in Upper Austria at larger intervals through exhibitions. Works by him are, for example, in the art collection of the province of Upper Austria. Purchases of his paintings and graphics were made by the City of Linz, the Tyrolean State Government, the Ministry of Education and the City of Salzburg’s Graphic Collection.

His artistic development was shaped by his intensive preoccupation with reality. These arguments were mainly determined by movement, light and shadow and temperature. He is in an exchange with the object to be painted and thereby captures its reality. In addition to paintings that deal with nature and landscape, he created a series of sgraffitis, such as on the fronts of houses in Steyregg.
