Robert Libeski

(1892-1988)

Robert Libeski was born in Aachen in 1892. He was the son of the painter Adolf Dagobert Libeski. Libeski ran a batik studio in Paris that specialized in figural wall hangings. He hadn’t completed any artistic training, but was an autodidact. His acquaintances with Léger, Fujita, Maillol, Braque, Picasso and Le Corbusier shaped his artistic career. He taught at painting schools in Paris and Vienna. Robert Libeski moved to Vienna in 1950 and became a member of the Vienna Secession in 1952. Robert Libeski died in 1988 in Klosterneuburg.

Robert Libeski’s art is constantly on the lookout for new artistic means of expression, which is expressed in his still lifes, nudes, flower pictures and portraits in oils and watercolors. His works can be assigned to the style of expressionism and have been shown in exhibitions in Vienna, Paris, London, Berlin, Düsseldorf and Darmstadt.
