Rudolf Möller

(1881-1967)

Rudolf Möller was born in Schmiedefeld, Germany in 1881 and worked as a painter, graphic artist and drawing teacher. Between 1905 and 1907 he trained as a drawing teacher at the Royal Art School in Berlin with Lovis Corinth. From 1916 he was a drawing teacher at a grammar school in Berlin. In 1919 he became a member of the November group, where he regularly exhibited his works. During the National Socialism his art was considered as ‘‘Degenerate Art‘‘ and he went to Dresden in 1940. In 1943 he was expelled from Dresden and moved to Steinen im Wiesental. He had to leave all his works in Dresden and moved in 1945 to Lörrach, where he stayed until his death in 1967. Rudolf Möller belongs to the „Lost Generation“ and his art can be assigned to expressive realism. The color is not only a vehicle of expression, but it is also a space and form-creating medium.
